Why would I need teeth extracted and how is it done?

A tooth would need to be extracted when the tooth has severe decay, the tooth is broken and irreparable, a wisdom tooth is impacted (cannot fully erupt), the area has gum disease or when the teeth are crowded and need some space before orthodontic treatment. During treatment, the dentist will administer a local anaesthetic to numb the area so there is no pain or discomfort. If you are worried or nervous, we can offer you sedation options.

Surgical Removal of Retained Roots and Fractured Teeth
When teeth break or roots remain under the gum, minor oral surgery may be needed to safely remove them. This procedure helps prevent infection, discomfort and damage to surrounding teeth.
Our experienced team uses gentle techniques to ensure your comfort throughout, supporting a smooth recovery.

Exposure or removal of impacted teeth for orthodontics

Impacted teeth can interfere with orthodontic treatment. We offer surgical exposure or removal to assist your orthodontist in guiding tooth movement effectively. This is commonly performed for impacted canines or wisdom teeth and is carefully planned to support a healthy and aligned smile.

What is a bone graft?

When you are being considered for a dental implant, your dentist will look at the bone of your jaw as the dental implant is an artificial root inserted into the jaw.

A bone graft is needed when the jaw bone is too thin or soft to keep the implant in. It is then recommended to wait several months for the graft to create new strong bone. Following this, the implant procedure can then go ahead.

Soft tissue procedures (lumps, bumps and swellings)

Unusual lumps or swellings in the mouth may require soft tissue surgery. We carefully assess and remove these areas for further examination, offering peace of mind and protecting your oral health. Most procedures are quick and carried out under local anaesthetic for your comfort.

What is a sinus lift?

A sinus lift is done when there is not enough bone in the upper jaw when being considered for implants, or if the sinuses are too close to the jaw.

During surgery, the gum tissue is raised and a small window is opened in the bone. There is a membrane lining the sinus on the other side of the jaw and this is pushed upwards. Bone graft material is packed into the space where the sinus was and then the gap closed and stitched. It is recommended to wait several months for the graft to create new strong bone.

Repair of oro-antral communications

An oro-antral communication is a small opening between the mouth and sinus that can occur after upper tooth removal. If this happens, we offer a minor surgical repair to close the opening and prevent sinus issues. Treatment is straightforward and helps ensure proper healing.
